In December 2009, as SEWA Delhi successfully completed ten years, SEWA women members gathered in large numbers to celebrate the success of their struggles. Over 1500 women members gathered from the different areas where SEWA Delhi works namely, Raghubir Nagar, Sunder Nagri, Gokulpuri, Rajiv Nagar, Anand Vihar, Paschimpuri and New Ashok Nagar. The Chief Guest for the occasion was Mr. Ulrich Meinecke, Counsellor, Social and Labour Affairs for Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany The programme began with lamp lighting by the chief guests followed by reciting of prayers. Mr. Meinecke in his address appreciated the efforts and work of SEWA in enabling the empowerment of women workers in the unorganized sector. Dr. Sanjay Kumar, Managing Trustee of SEWA Delhi and National Coordinator of SEWA Bharat and Smt. Renanaa Jhabwala, President of SEWA Bharat in their address highlighted the achievements of SEWA Delhi and SEWA movement in the past ten years and urged all women members to forge ahead with greater vigour in all their struggles. |

Members of Anand Vihar presented a folk-dance of Madhya Pradesh, children of members from Sunder Nagri and Raghubir Nagar presented two plays. The first play addressed the issue of corruption in government offices and the second play portrayed the various issues and challenges faced by women street vendor members of SEWA who come to sell their products at SEWA Mahila Bazaar. The mahotsav ended with the performance of garba, a traditional dance of Gujarat, which was presented by members of Raghubir Nagar and Paschimpuri. The members were joined in the garba by all members and leaders of SEWA who joyfully danced together and celebrated their victory. |
